About Us

Independent - what do we mean by that?  We use the word independent to demonstrate that we are a family business not a branch office of a large company.  Many apparently family owned funeral directors are actually part of large organisations, make sure you know who you are dealing with.  Jonathan Whiting Independent Funeral Directors is owned and run by Jonathan and Julie Whiting, we make the decisions at every level, from what colour stationery to use to what make of funeral vehicles to buy.  We stand by our decisions.

As a small business we have the flexibility to respond to your needs and to provide truly personal care.  

Jonathan and Julie are both qualified Funeral Directors, holding the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and are members of the British Institute of Funeral Directors.  Both organisations require their members to abide by strict Codes of Practice, thus ensuring the highest standards to the bereaved.

Queen Street was built in the early 1860s, the first occupants of No 5 were Fullalove Brothers, Agricultural Engineers, Builders and Undertakers.  We know they worked from Queen Street until the early 1930s, possibly longer.  It was purely by coincidence that the premises we bought include their house and workshops.  It seems fitting that we have taken these buildings back to their original use.  We have two receipts for funerals carried out by Fullalove Brothers in 1911 and 1923, things have certainly changed a lot over the years.
