About Us

We use the word independent to demonstrate that we are a family business not a branch office of a large company. Many apparently family owned funeral directors are actually part of large organisations, make sure you know who you are dealing with. Jonathan Whiting Independent Funeral Directors is owned and run by Jonathan and Julie Whiting, ably assisted by Debbie O’Connell. Between us we aim to provide the highest level of personal care to the people of Lincoln and surrounding villages, we believe that an independent family business is best able to achieve this. In todays changing society the values of tradition, dignity and respect count for so much during a bereavement and our policy is to offer the same level of service to our clients as we would expect to recieve for a member of our own family. As a small business we have the flexibility to respond to your needs and to provide truly personal care, we are readily available and can be contacted 24 hours a day as we live on the premises.

Jonathan and Julie are both qualified Funeral Directors, holding the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and are members of the British Institute of Funeral Directors. Both organisations require their members to abide by strict Codes of Practice, thus ensuring the highest standards to the bereaved.

Jonathan has been a qualified Funeral Director for 20 years, he worked for a long established firm in Grantham before he and Julie took the opportunity to open their own business in Lincoln. His aim is to provide the highest level of care always associated with the funeral profession, using modern equipment and facilities blended with traditional standards. Jonathan holds the Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors

Julie Whiting

Julie Whiting

Julie has been a qualified Funeral Director for five years and is a fully qualified embalmer. She is involved in all aspects of the business, arranging funerals, admin and care of the deceased.

Julie holds the Diploma in Funeral Directing, the Diploma in Embalming and is a member of the British Institute of Funeral Directors and the British Institute of Emabalmers

Debbie O’Connell

Debbie has been a part-time member of the team for three years while studying for her degree in Forensic Science and now works as a full time member of our team. She is involved in all aspects of the business, arranging and directing funerals and caring for the deceased. She is now studying for her Diploma in Funeral Directing.
